The cost of building the Bellefonte Nuclear Plant in Alabama could be more than the Tennessee Valley Authority spent to build all three of its current nuclear generating stations. The federal utility says in its latest filing to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that industry estimates for the two Westinghouse AP-1000 pressurized water reactors planned for the site near Scottsboro, Ala., range from $9.8-17.5B. That's compared to estimates of $6.4 -7.1B a year ago.

The Cobb County Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved a design contract for the $55M new county courthouse. The $8.42M contract with Turner Construction Co. includes the company's design fee, contractor's fee and other costs.

Columbus Mayor Jim Wetherington was upset Tuesday when he heard for the first time that a proposed ice rink could serve as a multi-use facility. The mayor's objections came as Deputy City Manager David Arrington updated the 10-member council on the ice rink, a city service center, two fire stations and road projects. Using money from a 1 percent Local Option Sales Tax approved in July, the projects are part of a $151M plan to improve public safety, infrastructure.

NCR plans to create 916 new jobs in Peachtree City and Duluth at a time when unemployment in metro Atlanta is up significantly. The maker of ATMs and self-checkout machines said Tuesday the expansion will increase its Georgia work force more than 50 percent over

26 months. Between 60 percent and 80 percent of those jobs will go to Peachtree City as NCR moves its customer service headquarters there.
